  • There will be NSS racing in Houston

    http://www.nmcadigital.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=14379

I need to hustle out the door for a quick 600 mile trip to north of Dallas and back -- but I'll post more details later.

Anyway -- a lot of people asked about this at the Dave Duell Classic -- and the short answer is YES.

Scott Sparrow said that NMCA will give us the same arrangement as last year.

I'd like to get a preliminary car count. Who will be there?

    1. Dallas
    2. Me

That's sarcasm Mark... After driving what seemed like a week going to and from Bowling Green, Houston will be a treat.

Count me in for Houston, Dave. I think we ought to dig out my old banner and have a NSS side pot for this race.... $100.00 buy in, winner takes all? Or maybe 70-30 split, winner and runner up ( or highest and second place for those that chip in)?

Doug, you DID go with Damon...........only felt like a week?............short trip..lol

I think one season we went to 7 NSCA races and 3 NMCA races...closest one was Memphis...8 hours from Dallas.......that included Michigan twice and Rising Sun, Md........oh yea, we had to run the race in Wisconson twice also.........the rest were just short hops, St Louis, Columbus, Bristol, BG, Atlanta, Belle Rose, La and yes, Moroso in South Florida...........Then was the time we went to Florida for a Ford Event in Bradenton, back up to Orlando for a Wed race and a show in Valdosta and then a NSCA race in mid Georgia........2 1/2 weeks out and turned around and raced again in 2 weeks........man did that RED truck get old quick.

And another epic was breaking an engine in St Louis, driving back to Texas, back in the truck to Pa to pick up a spare engine, install it and race in Columbus in 10 days for the World Finals............

None of you will get any sympathy from me about travel............chit...we used to start in Georgia and race in Texas, Arizona, California and Washington.............then limp back home as best we could...and all on whatever we won. Did that for 3 years............and raced all up and down the east coast in between...........

                  M.

I will vouch for Mark on that. You could always look for them to be at a race. They are the ones that inspired me to do this crayness. But it was sure fun at the time and they had a ball. One year I raced in West Palm Beech and then to Grand Bend Canada and Rising Sun Maryland and all over. The people I work for then were very understanding and I had the days (24 per year) and I could go racing. Now I have (2 per year) and they get mad if I take those. I never traveled as much as Mark and Dan but I did run all the races in a series for a number of years and then some Buick races too. I love it and hope to make a serious run again soon.

I am not saying there aren't people who do it Mark, but that last run was really hell. Two blow outs on my part, a defective wheel bearing on Damon's rig. 103*-112* days......Crappy food on the road.....Maybe I am just getting old. I don't have anyone to share the driving with, so it's just me, 14 hours days sitting in the same spot.

Of course to top it off, I had Chim-Chim in the back seat.

That's just the fun of NSS racing. Makes for great stories. Like the first time I went to Rising Sun Maryland. Had a master cylinder go bad in the mountains in the middle of the night. Then blew out a left side tire on I95 and trucks were flying by and cursing me for being on the side. I drove to an exit a mile away and in the process cut a foot off the sewer tank to boot. Then after getting up the next morning had a big knot on a trailer tire. Before I got home blew out another motorhome tire and another trailer tire. Had to replace the M/C and runnered-up in the race and still lost a bundle of money, but it was great fun. Oh, by the way, Mark and Dan were there too.

Then was the time we went to Florida for a race..........got there and broke the TRUCK, then broke the car........wound up sleeping in the trailer for 3 days, got up around 4 am on Sunday, sand fleas eating us alive, "borrowed" some beverages from another cooler and proceeded to repair the car.......went out and ran our first sub 10 second pass, a 9.96.......repaired the truck, and pulled out of there around 4 pm..........went to the first motel on the right and checked in and got our first showers of the weekend............then proceeded to race at 3 more venues before returning to Texas.

Know where to buy trailer tires on any major highway between here and any race track North, East and South of Dallas.......and have done so.........gave up once and replaced all 4 in Memphis.......and then proceeded to BG............oh I love it on the road.............If we had the time and money, I would not hesitate to make every race that we could get to..........chit, it's what I have been doing for most of the last 40 years.........seems natural.

Hope to see all out there soon.
